Despite recent regulatory changes, the UK still has one of the lowest rates of self-build homes in the world. Yet according to a 2020 YouGov survey, 1 in 3 people are interested in building their own home. So, what's stopping them?
Well, for almost half of them it turns out that finding a suitable plot is high up on their list of barriers. Thankfully Spotaplot is about to make that easier.
Using a blend of reliable data, cutting edge technology and their patent pending process, Spotaplot has scanned every property in England and Wales to determine which residential gardens offer potential building plots. Their first scan has identified over 195,000 potential building plots ideally suited for a single new dwelling. They've made what was a complicated and time-consuming process, both quick and easy.
"Using our system, within minutes, self-builders, property developers, estate agents, architects and planners can find a potential plot and undertake a detailed feasibility report," said Peter Bowdler, the founder and CEO of Spotaplot.
"One of the biggest challenges facing those who want to build their own home, is finding a suitable building plot," he continued. "And across the South of the country, where more people are interested in building, it's even harder to source that perfect plot."
Currently focused on single plots, but soon launching a product that will find land suitable for more than one dwelling, Spotaplot's system produces a Plot Report that contains all the details relating to individual plots, including in-principle building plans that indicate the opportunity's estimated gross development value.
Peter added, "Spotaplot helps self-builders find suitable plots and property developers assess their potential with just a couple of clicks. Similarly, estate agents can find potential building plots and convert them into possible sales leads, and architects and planners can find land suitable for their client's project. This is revolutionary stuff."
